Phil Grant has double bass duties for our shows. Not only does he play his stand up bass fiddle for our classic sets, but he handles the vintage four string electric bass guitar as well. Anyone that has seen Marshall Grant playing bass guitar for Johnny Cash as the Tennessee Three, will see the striking resemblance when Phil is performing on stage. In addition to his double bass duties, Phil arranges the background vocals for the group and is the son of Boss and Lynn Grant.
Knox Rivers is a rare find indeed. He is the true country boy in the show. Originally from North Carolina, Knox comes from an extremely talented musical family. Knox plays a perfect Luther Perkins, who as everyone knows is Johnny’s original guitar player.. If you love the Johnny Cash sound, come and hear Knox play it and find out why he is such a huge addition to the heart and soul of Johnny Cash Revue. Knox also adds to the background vocals and is the cousin of Joe and Phil.
Joe Grant is not new to the music scene. He traveled as the bass guitarist for the nationally known “Ace Troubleshooter”, along with other groups under the record label of Tooth and Nail. We are so proud to feature him on the drums. In addition to drums, Joe does background vocals and harmonica. Joe is the stage manager of the group and is the son of Boss and Lynn Grant. Joe was born and raised in the St. Paul area and was recently married to the love of his life, Angie.
Boss Grant’s wife, Lynn Grant, does all the keyboard work for the group, adding such sounds as brass and strings. It would be a disappointment to attend a Johnny Cash Revue show and not hear the brass intro to “Ring of Fire” or the beautiful string section on “Flesh and Blood”. In addition to keyboard, Lynn sings background vocals adding to the fullness of the sound of the group. Lynn is no stranger to stage work and musical touring. Boss and Lynn toured together in a gospel group before they were married. After they were married, they continued touring together until their first son was born. Lynn took a break from touring while raising their 5 boys. She is now back on the road with Boss and the rest of the group.
